Genre Research: Drama
Drama is a type or genre of narrative fiction in cinema and television that is intended to be more serious in tone than amusing.
- Common camera angles:
High Angle, Pan, Over the Shoulder Shot, Establishing Shot, Close Up, etc.
- Common Mis-En-Scene:
Casual Costumes, acting typically dramatized (plot twists and nuances to continue to reel in the audience throughout the film), set/makeup/acting that aligns with the film's themes/plot, etc.
- Common Editing:
Eye-line match, Action match, Fade in, Fade out, Shot/Reverse Shot, etc.
- Common sound:
Diegetic Sound, Sound Motif, Voiceover, Dialogue, etc.
- Example Drama Films:
Titanic, The Hunger Games, The Notebook, 6 Underground, etc.
- Element(s) of Drama I enjoy:
I like their high-stakes, conflict-filled environments, that keep tensions high and audiences on the edge of their seats.
- Element(s) of Drama I do not enjoy:
I, however, do not like the unnecessary dramatization that occurs in the films. I prefer a more classical approach, I believe that drama in media shouldn't be overdone, but the category should be implied as a background element of the film.
