Music Blog

Hey guys, welcome or welcome back to my blog. Today we'll be continuing the production of the opening sequence for my short film, The Red Room. This blog will be discussing the music that will be utilized in my project.

The song I along with my group picked for our background music is Dark Red by Steve Lacy. Steve Thomas Lacy-Moya is an American singer, composer, guitarist, and record producer. This 2017 song on Lacy's album called "Steve Lacy's Demo" holds an eerie atmosphere of paranoia and mystique. We ultimately decided that we would specifically be using the instrumental version of the song. Using the instrumental version will allow the diegetic sounds and dialogue to be heard over the music. This should hopefully also allow the main focus to stay on the actual movie from the song. In addition, using a very popular song for the film is a tactic to attract a young audience.

A couple of weeks back my groupmate, Callie, emailed Steve Lacy. Although she did email him, she hasn't gotten a response. My groupmates also decided to direct message Steve Lacy on Instagram in hopes that it may help expedite the process. Although it isn't very likely that he will respond, it is ultimately better to ask for permission than to move on without ever asking. I am hoping for a response soon (and/or not to be copyrighted). Each member of the group deeply enjoys Steve Lacys' music. That being said, being able to use his music in this project will make this journey just that much more enjoyable. The whole group is ecstatic and we hope to do the artist and the song justice in our utilization.

That'll be all for today's blog, without further ado, please take care of yourself and I look forward to seeing you next time. It's been Adrian, signing off.
