Research and Planning Blog
Hi guys, it's Adrian. Welcome back to my blog! Recently I've been preparing for my (about me) commercial. Firstly, I started looking for photos for my commercial. I knew I wanted to incorporate all the different stages of my life in my photo selection, so I started there. The goal was 3 photos total for my younger life and 2 for my older life. This was finalized with the decision of 2 photos from infancy, 1 photo from childhood, 1 photo from tweenhood, and 1 as a teenager. As far as preteen (tween) and teen photos, I was sure I could find them by simply browsing my phone's camera roll. However, for the younger years, I would need to consult an outside source. With that being said I paid a visit to my Grandma's house to excavate decades of old photo albums. Roughly a day later, I had settled on my photos. For the infancy photos, I was stuck between three of my favorite pictures of me as a baby, but my mom helped me narrow it down to her favorite two. For the childhood photo, I chose one of the only pictures from that stage of my life that I can still vividly remember. The picture is of my sister and I dressed up in traditional Jamaican fabrics for a cultural event at our church. There was nothing necessarily extravagant about the day, but it was just a lot of fun and a memory that crosses my mind often. For the preteen photo, I chose a picture taken the morning of my class's field trip to a simulated city called 'JA
Biztown', where every student had a role to play in the city, and where I was able to act as the mayor for a day. This was a day that I am still very proud of and it taught young me that I could truly be whatever I wanted to be in this world. Lastly, for my teenage photo, I chose a picture of me and my older sister, Arianna, on a cruise this summer. The cruise was honestly the longest time we've gone, in a long time, without arguing and it is a symbol of the love that will always be in my heart for her. Next for my videos, I had to do a little digging through my mother's OneDrive account. However, I already knew the videos I was looking for. My choice was two of my favorite videos that depict one of my first Christmases in Florida, the year that my sister and I got a PS3. The first video is the unboxing of the presents, this video only had to be minorly cropped for time and to focus on my presents specifically. The second video is the morning after Christmas when we were actually able to try out the new console and played the game Just Dance, which later became a staple of my childhood. Lastly for the song, I chose a song that I felt really embodied this commercial. A song from my personal favorite artist. I chose Conan Gray's "Grow". Grow is one of Conan's earliest songs causing it to be heavily underrated, but I couldn't have thought of a better song to use. This song fits the commercial's general theme of following the stages of my life exceptionally, and parallels with a quality I strive to always uphold, adaptability. The very ability to grow.
